Braving inclement weather and harsh terrain, an Indian Air Force team has successfully rescued two Czech trekkers trapped in the Zanskar valley in Leh.
On Saturday morning, the IAF headquarters received an SOS from the Czech embassy, seeking help to rescue Jeri Kuduma and Daniel Miller, who were on a trekking expedition. The duo was trapped at Kargiak in the valley, pierced by the Zanskar river.
Two cheetah helicopters from the Leh-based 114 helicopter squadron were immediately dispatched for the arduous task. Squadron Leaders F P Pinto and Kabirappa flew upto Padam valley for a reconnaissance. But what they saw was not encouraging.
Located at an altitude of about 11,000 ft, the area is notoriously rugged.
