Author of book Aanudeva Horaganavanu Banjagere Jayapra kash has strongly condemned the state government’s decision to seize copies of his book.
“According to my knowledge this is for the first time in India any state government has decided to seize copies of a book, which has already been withdrawn by the author himself”, he said. He said that rather than cultural and literary reasons the political reasons have played a major role in the state cabinet’s decision.
“The government has yielded to pressure mounted on it by a few vested interests. I don’t find logic in the government’s decision when I myself have already withdrawn the book”, he added. Akhila Bharata Veerashaiva Mahasabha has welcomed the state government’s decision and withdrawn its Vidhana Soudha chalo scheduled for July 25. Addressing reporters on Monday, Bheemanna Khandre, president of the Mahasabha said lakhs of Lingayats were thankful to the government. “We request the government to ensure that henceforth no body is allowed to make controversial statements that cause a rift between communities and divide people” Mr Khandre said.
seizure
With the state government deciding to seize the book, no seller can sell it, nor the publisher can proceed with further prints. Any violation of this invites legal action. According to a senior police officer the police can register a complaint under section 295 A of IPC on charges of insulting religious sentiment of a community and can seize copies of the book in book stalls.
