Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly that an expert committee will be constituted to look into the formation of new taluks.
Replying to a question raised by Mr Shivananda S Patil (Cong), Mr Shettar said that formation of new taluks had arisen following demands from various quarters and increase in population.
He said there has been a demand for 85-90 new taluks. A final decision on the numbers will be decided by the expert committee, he added. However, several Opposition members objected to constitution of the new committee.
