Forest and Environment Minister C Chennigappa on Monday informed the Legislative Assembly that his department will conduct a detailed inquiry into the poisoning of more than hundred peacocks in Shirahatti taluk in Gadag district.

Replying to the issue raised by Mr Vatal Nagaraj of Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha in the zero hour, the minister said that the officers had reached the spot of the massacre.

Also, the initial reports indicated that the peacocks had died after consuming poison mixed grains scattered by a local farmer. The farmer had resorted to kill the birds by mixing pesticides with the grains to protect his crops.
