Methanol licence checking a must
Bangalore City Deputy Commissioner M A Sadiq said examining the misuse of methanol license would be made compulsory for methanol users.
Reviewing the measures taken in the district, following a ban on arrack, Mr Sadiq said of the 21 licences issued for selling methanol in the state, 17 centres were situated in Bangalore alone. The licencees will have to compulsorily furnish details of their monthly transactions, he added. He informed that a large quantity of illicit liquor had been destroyed in the district after the ban. He directed the excise and police department officials to step up raids.
Indian on US ‘medical’ board
Dr Rajam Ramamurthy was appointed to the Board of Educational Council for Foreign Medical Graduates, US.Dr Ramamurthy had chaired the Texas Medical Association International Medical Graduates (IMG) section in 2000 and the American Medical Association IMG section in 2004. She compiled the first report on IMGs in the US Physician Workforce.
Institute celebrates Founders’ Day
The Dayananda Sagar Institutions (DSI) celebrated its Founders’ Day on Tuesday. Union Minister of State for Planning, M V Rajashekaran, the chief guest, said it is education that leads to employment, empowerment and increased incomes. This will put the country on the path of faster progress in economic and social development, which was recognised by the founder president of DSI, late R Dayananda Sagar, he said.

A website devoted to veteran socialist S Venkatram was launched here on Tuesday. Former Home Minister PGR Sindhia inaugurated the website, www.svenkatram.com. The socialist leader from Karnataka, who passed away 26 years ago, had worked with eminent personalities like Ram Manohar Lohia, Rabi Ray, George Fernandes and Madhu Dandavate.
