The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has begun construction of temporary sheds to relocate and house residents of 12 blocks at the EWS quarters in Ejipura.
Joint Commissioner (East) Nagaraj said construction of sheds would be completed within a week, after which residents will move in.
“Workers and gangmen are on the job to complete construction at the earliest,” he said. Babu, a resident at Ejipura said Bamboo poles and roofing sheets were bought in by the BBMP and land levelled using JCB bulldozers.
“A portion of the 20th block of the quarters collapsed on Tuesday morning. They were immediately plastered with cement temporarily. Fortunately, no one was injured. The sooner we are relocate, the better for us,” Mr Babu added. Sources in the BBMP say construction of new housing blocks on a PPP model, instead of availing funds under the JNNURM is being thought of and the issue will be decided by the Government soon.
