The Pourakarmikas strike which entered the ninth day in the city, has begun to effect its daily routine. The stir continued as the deadlock between the administration and the pourakarmikas was not resolved and their demands have not been met.
The strike has hit the supply of drinking water to the city and though the district administration and city municipality are trying to meet the demand their efforts are falling woefully short of the requirement.
A special mention has to be made about the joint efforts of the City Municipality Commissioner, Assistant executive engineers and the people themselves who have been striving to fight the water crisis. They have been sending water tankers to meet the demands. However these efforts also face challenges because of the frequent power cuts in the area.
The other heroes of this problems are the youngsters who have come forward to resolve the crisis. This is especially true in Jayanagar where the youth under the leadership of Murali Gowda have been ferrying water. Social worker Dhanamatnalli Venkatesh also pitched in and has been distributing water free of cost in a few parts of the city.
Continued protest
The pourakarmikas after staging a protest in front of the City municipality and legislators’ home have now intensified their stir. On Tuesday they took out a procession from Mekke road and burnt an effigy of of Minister for Municipal Administration Alangur Srinivas They also condemned the delay tactics that being employed by the Government to fulfil their demands.
They even entered the offices of the Municipal Commissioner and did not allow the functioning till he made a formal complaint to the police to clear them. They then shifted their protest into the Municipality premises and allowed the rest of the officers to function normally.
Failure
The meet that was called by the Municipal Commissioner to discuss the issues of cleanliness and water requirements on Tuesday was a failure as neither the people nor the supporting organisations were present. Except for the media persons the only other attendee was the Assistant Executive Engineer who waited for a long time at the empty meet.
