In a tragic incident, the gram panchayat secretary of Konchavaram in Chincholi taluk died of snakebite.
Konchavaram gram panchayat secretary Neelaknteppa Bhimashankar (52) was bitten by a snake when he was groping in the dark to light a kerosene lamp at his home on Sunday night. While searching for kerosene lamp during power failure, he touched a snake which bit him fatally. After restoration of power supply, the gram panchayat secretary told his neighbours about the  snakebite.
They  rushed him to the taluk general hospital at Chincholi town.
However, he breathed his last as the venom of the snake affected his body beyond treatment.
He is survived by wife, three sons and two daughters.
Police registered a case and took up investingation  into the death.
