Journalists must be credible
DH News Service,Shimoga:

Journalists should maintain preciseness and credibility in their writings, opined, R P Jagadish, Associate Editor of Prajavani.
Speaking at Maadhyama Manthana, programme organised by State Media Academy in the City on Monday, he said originality and authenticity were assets of journalists.
Scribes should accord priority for values and ethics. They should maintain intimate relationship with persons from various strata of society but personal links and affiliations should never hamper their profession. Scribes should never lose their balance of mind and sense of judgement in adverse situations, he suggested.
Calling upon scribes to be voracious readers, he said that reading sharpens language skills and keeps them abreast with latest happenings. “Scribes should be humble and cultivate respect towards achievements of veterans. But they should come out of the shadow of senior writers and create a niche of their own,” he noted.
Instead of sensationalising things, journalists should try to be credible. Expressing concern that media was becoming urban-centric, he said that interesting stories can be generated from mofussil centres and villages also when a journalist was sensible to things happening around him. Regarding sting operations he said that “such operations keep society vigilant against corruption and irregular practices but due care should be taken regarding credibility of such operations”.
Commenting on statements that journalists are performing under pressure, he said that media realm in Karnataka was exception for this.
“In my career I never faced any intervention or pressure as such. Most of the news composed by me were published without much alteration,” he said.
President of State Media Academy Subba Rao who chaired the programme said that the academy will organise orientation programmes for scribes at all district headquarters of the State.
