Governor Gifts Zoo To State

Neelam Calls To Forge United Oppn

New Delhi, July 24.
The outgoing President, Mr Neelam Sanjiva Reddy regretted today that even after so many years of independence, it had not been possible to evolve a united Opposition which could provide an alternative to the party in power. In a farewell broadcast to the nation on the eye of laying down his office tomorrow, the President warned that in the absence of a strong Opposition, “division and dissent are liable to arise within the rolling party itself, which does not make for stability.”

The Governor of Mysore, Sri Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar has permanently gifted away to the State Government the Zoological Gardens at Mysore. The Gardens which are the private property of the Governor include land, buildings, animals, equipment valued at about Rs 12 lakhs besides the road by name “Thandi Sadak” or Daily Avenue, it is announced here today.

The State Government, in gratefully accepting the gift, have decided to continue maintaining the property as Zoological Gardens.

Institute Discovers New ‘Particle’
New Delhi, July 24
Prime Minister Nehru today announced that the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research at Bombay, had discovered a new “elementary particle.”
He praised India’s atomic physicists and said that Dr Niels Bohr, an international authority on nuclear physics, had paid a tribute to India’s atomic research.
