*India's escape from the jaws of defeat is only the second such instance in its 75 years of Test cricket after having lost 9 wickets. India had become the first country in Test history to save a match after losing nine wickets at Old Trafford, Manchester in 1946 when the last pair of Sohoni and Hindlekar defied the formidable English bowling attack for the last 13 minutes. In all, there have been 15 occasions in Test history when a team had denied opponents after losing nine wickets.
*There were 14 dismissals through leg before in the Test, the most in a Test featuring India. The record is 17, in the West Indies-Pakistan encounter at Port of Spain in April 1993.
*At the age of 25 years, Christopher Timothy Tremlett became the 632nd player to represent England in Test cricket. He is the grandson of Maurice Tremlett who had also played for England in 1948. It is the first instance of a grandfather and grandson playing for England in Test cricket.
*When Rahul Dravid took the catch to dismiss Andrew Strauss in England's first innings off Anil Kumble, he completed 150 catches in Tests. Others who have taken over 150 catches in Test cricket are Mark Waugh (181), Brian Lara (164), Stephen Fleming (159), Mark Taylor (157) and Allan Border (156).
*Paul Collingwood was dismissed for a duck for the first time in his Test career, when Kumble trapped him leg before in the first innings.
*When he claimed the wicket of Strauss for 96, Kumble achieved the unique distinction of dismissing batsmen who were on the threshold of a century on ten occasions, which is a world record. Kapil Dev had this record against his name with nine such dismissals.
*South African born Kevin Pietersen registered his ninth century in Test cricket and his first against India. It was also his third century at Lord's.
*Tremlett became the fifth Englishman to bag a 'pair' on debut. The others are Fred Grace vs Australia at The Oval in 1880, Jim Smith vs West Indies at Bridgetown in 1934-35, Graham Gooch vs Australia at Birmingham in 1975 and Gavin Hamilton vs South Africa at Johannesburg in 1999-00.
*Playing in his fifth Test, Rudra Pratap Singh captured his first five-wicket haul in Test cricket (5/59). His previous best was four for 89 on debut against Pakistan at Faisalabad on January 21, 2006.
*Sachin Tendulkar, who was dismissed leg before in both the innings of this Test, took the tally to 39, the third highest in the list of batsmen to be dismissed in this fashion. Graham Gooch with 50 holds the record followed by Alec Stewart with 40.
