The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday admitted a writ petition by Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Minister Alkod Hanumanthappa and Agricultural Marketing Minister S Darshanapur, challenging the Lokayukta report seeking action against them.
The petitions by the two ministers have impugned Karnataka Lokayukta’s report submitted to the Chief Minister on May 11, 2007, seeking action against them for not filing the details of their assets and liabilities concerning the year 2005, in time.
The Lokayukta’s report was following a complaint by former minister S K Kantha. The petitioners’ counsel said that they had filed the details on September 1, 2006 along with seven other ministers, while they had to be filed on or before June 30, 2006. However, the filings had been accepted by the Lokayukta and the matter stood closed. The Lokayukta has reopened the case without authority and only against two of the ministers, the counsel stated while contending it to be arbitrary.
