International airport: Ryots demand compensation
Bangalore, DHNS:

Farmers of Devanahalli staged a protest in front of Bangalore Rural deputy commissioner’s office in Bangalore on Wednesday alleging that compensation for those farmers who lost land for international airport has not been provided properly.

Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha’s Devanahalli taluk unit President Veeranna alleged that the State government was releasing compensation to farmers at two different rates. While a section of farmers were given Rs 35 lakh as compensation per one acre, majority of land losers were given only Rs 5 lakh per acre. The Government should provide Rs 35 lakh per acre to all land losers.

He said 2,800 acres of land acquired for the project is bagair hukum land and it has been cultivated by hundreds of farmers. But none of them have been provided with either compensation or alternative land after their land was acquired.
