The Municipal Workers’ Association has decided to go ahead with its Jail Bharo agitation, regardless of imposition of Esma by the State Government.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday night, the Association has reiterated its decision to continue protesting till its demands were met.
Describing their agitation as just, the association has called upon its members to carry the fight till the end.
To increase pressure on the government, the Association has planned to block the highway on Thursday. On July 28, the protesters will carry out a semi-nude procession. On July 30, they will be joined by family members. And finally, on July 31, the Association plans to give a State-wide bundh call.
Regretting the inconvenience caused to the public by the continuing protest, Association district unit president Bidaraiah put the onus on the government to resolve their problems. The main demands of the Municipal workers are as follows:
Extension of recommendations made by the Fifth Pay Commission to the Municipal workers too; regularisation of the services of daily wage employees who were appointed after January 1, 1986 ; settle service-related problems and stopping the practice of recruiting Municipal workers via contract system.

Meanwhile, the district unit of the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti has extended its support to the ongoing agitation of the Municipal workers.
In a statement, P N Ramaiah , the president stated that by not extending the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Panel to these workers, the government had erred badly.
He further warned the government that it would be responsible for the consequences created out of the ongoing protest.
