Woman succumbs to debt trap, kills self

Yet another farmer committing suicide has been reported from Kallambella, unable to repay loan. However, it is the first time that a woman committing suicide for the above mentioned reason has been reported.

Ratnamma (40) of Eedigara Dasarahalli near Kallambella in Sira taluk, committed suicide by hanging on Tuesday night. The incident came to light on Wednesday morning it is said. The woman owned 90 coconut trees, all of which had succumbed to disease. She had borrowed around Rs 45,000 since 1992. Unable to clear up the debt, she committed suicide. No further details about her family has been forthcoming so far, said Kallambella Sub-Inspector Shivakumar. Investigations are on.
Death threat
The founder of a charitable trust has sought police protection after receiving death threats.
M H Gopal, founder-secretary of Saichetana Charitable Trust has alleged that he was abused and threatened when he questioned the irregularities in the transfer of property belonging to a temple in Jayanagar. 
The office-bearers of the said temple had spread the rumour that the property had been transferred to the Trust.
When questioned, the complainant was abused on caste basis as well as issued threats, stated the complaint filed with the police. Copies of the complaint has also been sent to the Karnataka SC/ST Commission as well as State Director General of Police. The complaint seeks further enquiry into the matter by the Superintendent of Police Harishekharan, besides protection for self.
Lecher arrested
The Honnavalli Police have arrested one Kuppooraiah on charges of mental harrassment to a married woman. The said Kuppooraiah used to harass the woman by passing lewd comments, when she was alone at home. Unable to tolerate this, the woman lodged a complaint with the police who arrested the accused and produced him before the court.
House burgled
A woman who had taken her daughter to the hospital for delivery found her house burgled and gold and silver jewellery worth around Rs 40,000 missing in Honnavalli of Tiptur taluk.
Sharadamma, a resident of Sri Ramanagar and her daughter were away in the Tiptur General Hospital on Tuesday when the thieves are said to have gained entry into the house by removing the roof tiles and made away with the jewels. A case has been registered with the Honnavalli Police.
Cash, phones stolen
Thieves struck two shops in Madhugiri on Monday night, breaking them open and taking away cash Rs 14, 000 and two cellphones. However, their attempt to burgle another shop was foiled when they had to flee hearing the police siren, late reports have suggested.
A case has been registered.
