Well known singer Lata Hamsalekha called upon the society to strive towards preserving folk arts.
She was speaking at the staging of Ambika Vijaya and Mahishasura Mardini under the Guru-Shishya series, jointly organised by the department of Kannada and Culture and Tumkur Zilla Janapada, Sangeeta Mattu Yakshagana Bayalata Sangha at the Dr Gubbi Veeranna Rangamandira.
The singer felt that it was necessary to conduct camps in order to pass on the knowledge to the society, there by ensuring that folk arts survived.
Presiding over the programme, Harikatha Vidwan awardee Lakshman Das described Yakshagana  bayalata music as the root of all folk music as it had retained the rural flavour without any compromise.
Lament
Lamenting the disappearance of traditional art forms under relentless media invasion, Mr Das called upon those involved to strive towards passing on their knowledge to future generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat President M G Siddaramaiah called folk artistes ambassadors of Indian culture. He described folk arts as the link between artistes of various art forms. He hoped that the next generation would be able to preserve folk arts.
Sirivara Shivaramaiah, T V Raj, David, Kantalagere Sannahonnaiah, Kannada and Culture Assistant director K Sudheendra and others attended the event.
