A special scheme for the integrated development of the dalit community, implementation of single window system were the demands put forth by Dalit Sangharsha Samiti activists on Wednesday in Kolar.
They staged a hunger strike in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here. As per the recent report of the Human Resource Development, conditions of the scheduled caste and scheduled tribes, who constitute 20 per cent and 8 per cent, respectively, of the population in the State, are very poor, the protesters said.
Hence, the protesters demand, a single window system for proper utilisation of funds allotted for the dalits’ development. Rs 100 crore should be reserved for the land acquisition scheme; only after celebrating Dr Baba Saheb Ambdkar’s birthday, summer holidays for the schools should be announced; the officials should be strictly punished for malfunction; re-investigation into the Kambalapalli incident and rehabilitation and protection for the witness.
The loans obtained from the Ambedkar Board should be waived, the protesters demanded. They also said that the Kolar Gold Fields, Sanjayagandhinagar should be brought into the City municipality corporation and the destitute dalits should be given houses.
The protesters later submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
