The first World Congress on Manual Therapy (WCOMT 2007) will be held at TMA Pai International Convention centre in Mangalore on July 29 and 30. Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, Organising Secretary of the Congress Prof Umashankar Mohanty said that the event is being organised by the Manual Therapy Foundation of India.
Manual therapy is a specialised advanced branch of physiotherapy. It is application of an accurately determined and specifically directed manual force to the body, in order to improve mobility in areas that are restricted.
It is very efficient for treatment of various mechanical problems, of joints, muscles, ligaments and nerves.
It gives instantaneous relief to patients with low back pain, disc prolapse, neck pain, thoraic pain, shoulder pain, knee pain and head ache.
The purpose of the conference is to exchange information and ideas on today’s most important issues in Manual therapy between the stalwarts of the profession.
Workshops
There will be two pre-congress workshops on July 27 and 28 and a post conference workshop on July 31 and August 1.
Dr Peter Gibbons and Philip Tehan of Victoria University in Australia will be the resource person for the first pre-conference workshop to be held at Hotel Motimahal.
The second workshop will be hosted by Hotel Nalapad Residency and Dr Deepak Kumar will be the resource person.
Dr Gibbon will be the Key note speaker at the main conference on July 29 chaired by Dr Ali Irani. Other eminent speakers are Dr Philip Tehan (victoria University), Dr A G Dandapani (Chennai), Dr Patitapaban Mohanty (Cuttak) and Dr Valentin Dones lll (Philipines).
Prof Mohanty will be the resource person in the Post Conference Workshop hosted by Hotel Nalapad Residency.
As many as 1,200 delegates from India, Australia, U K, Nepal, china and Philipines will be participating in the conference, first time in Asia.
Prof Mohanty said that the conference is the first of its kind as the previous conferences on this branch was for different parts of the body separately, for neck, knee joint and so on.
Treasurer of the Congress Dr Surajeet Chakrabarty opined that it is the best opportunity for students to listen to international scholars in the field.
