Bid To Avert P&T Strike Fails
New Delhi, July 25.
The latest efforts by Prime Minister Nehru and the Labour Minister, Mr G L Nanda, to avert the proposed strike of Post and Telegraph Employees have failed and leaders of the employee unions announced after their 70-minute talks with the Prime Minister that their decision regarding the strike remained unchanged.
Mr B N Ghosh, convener of the Joint Council of Action of the National Federation of the P and T, Employees, said that the PM did not object to terming the proposed body to inquire into the pay structure of government employees a pay commission.
Walk-Outs Over Harijan Welfare
Bangalore, July 26.
The proceedings of the State Legislative Assembly were highlighted by two walk-outs by the Praja-Socialist Opposition Party and the Maharashtra Ekikarana Samiti over the Harijan welfare fund issue.

Oppn Resents Ruling, Quits Panels

New Delhi, July 26.
All Opposition members of the Rajya Sabha today resigned their membership of the two joint committees of Parliament – the Public Undertakings Committee and the Public Accounts Committee – in protest against the ruling of Chairman M Hidayatullah, which had “reduced the Upper House to a second class position.” In a ruling earlier in the day, he had said that Rajya Sabha members nominated on these committees did not enjoy the same status as those from the Lok Sabha did.
