A season exclusively for women at the Sabarimala Lord Ayyappa temple is one of the several suggestions that have come up before the LDF Government which wants the bachelor god’s abode to be thrown open to all women. This was revealed in the assembly on Wednesday by Minister for Devaswom Affairs G Sudhakaran.

The minister said he had received countless letters expressing support for the government’s efforts to remove the restrictions on women. One suggestion was to set apart a season itself for women when only the priests would be the only men at the shrine. However, the Travancore Devaswom Board has opposed in the SC any changes in the traditions. “The government’s policy is to end discrimination for women in matters of worship,” he said.
