Kumaran Nair
Palakkad, PTI: Veteran Kathakali artiste Keezhpadam Kumaran Nair died in a hospital near here on Thursday, his family said. Nair (93) was being treated for pneumonia at the hospital for the past few days. He is survived by his wife and eight children.
A true classicist, Nair had depicted a variety of mythological characters in Kathakali theatre in a career spanning several decades. He taught Kathakali in the Kerala Kalamandalam, the school for classical arts set up by poet Vallathol Narayana Menon.
Nair also made a mark as a dance director in films, especially in Tamil movies, by choreographing several well-remembered sequences in the early 1950s. He also had a role in star Mohanlal’s Vanaprastham, which portrayed the life of a Kathakali artiste.
Nair was a recipient of the Padmashree.
