Lecturers have boycotted evaluation of engineering answer scripts at National Institute of Engineering here demanding hike in daily allowance paid for the duration since Thursday. Evaluation of answer scripts for all semesters of three subjects--Electronics and Communication, Instrumentation technology and telecommunication-- has come to a halt.
The lecturers have demanded hike in Daily Allowance (DA) from Rs 225 to 500, exam supervisor’s allowance to be increased from Rs 40 to 100 and also some increase in laboratory exams.
No papers have been evaluated since Thursday with about 500 evaluators from all over the country returning to their respective places.
Evaluation was on since last four days and was expected to go on for another 8-10 days. So far, only 20 per cent of papers in three subjects have been evaluated.
“We have been placing the demand before Visveswaraya Technological University since last two years. This request was made during evaluation of papers of last semester as well. No action was initiated. We did not get any tangible reply from the registrar though despite contacting him over the phone. The decision of boycotting the process en masse was taken only after not receiving proper response,” an evaluator told Deccan Herald.
Many were of the opinion that Bangalore University paid Rs 500 per day for evaluation. “Can’t they pay even that? This sum is too less,” they said. Evaluation is being held at Jayachamarajendra Engineering College in Mysore, M S Ramaiah College in Bangalore and colleges in Gulburga and Belgaum for different papers.
