Scramble for medical seats; exodus from dental
Bangalore, DHNS:

On the first day of the casual vacancy round (CVR) of medical and dental seats for reserved and special category candidates, around 350 students chose the desired medical seats.

According to sources, of the 756 medical seats for CVR, 380 were for the general merit (GM) students but two days later the number increased to 400. CET Cell Administrative Officer Syed Jamaal said 20 more students surrendered their medical seats and opted for some other course. A good number of students surrendered their dental seats well before the CVR. With 30 more opting out, GM dental seats have gone up from 129 to 159. Twenty scheduled caste general (SCG) students too surrendered their dental seats, increasing the number from 82 to 102. So did two Scheduled Tribe (STG) candidates, and the number of seats now stands at 14 to 16.
Dental seats reserved under the General Merit Kannada (GMK) category rose from 11 to 12 and the GM Reserved seats too increased from 38 to 42.

There was a mad rush for medical seats on Thursday. Students from reserved and special categories grabbed the occasion to opt for colleges of their choice.

For example, under the 1G category there were reportedly 28 medical seats but all the seats were grabbed on Thursday.

Under the 2AG category, all 109 seats on offer have been taken. So have all the 59 seats under the GM Rural category.  All the 118 medical seats under the SCG were filled on Thursday. Under the reserved and special categories only a few seats are left for Friday’s CVR --15 seats under the SC Rural category, three under the SC Kannada, 11 under the 2AR, 1 seat each under 1R, 2BR and 1 AGL categories.
