The Karnataka High Court on Thursday directed All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Comman Entrance Test (CET) Cell to facilitate admissions to IMPACT Engineering College, Bangalore, as per its recent interim order.
The Court had by an interim order on June 22, 2007 allowed admissions to the college in three engineering courses for the year 2007-08. At the hearing on Thursday, counsel representing the college submitted that despite court’s direction, the college’s name was shown in the `No Admissions Category’ of AICTE web-site & CET Cell had not allotted any seats in its seat matrix. The Bench headed by Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph observed that AICTE inspection report found the college to have sufficient infrastructure to conduct first year engineering course. The Bench directed AICTE to show the college’s name in `Admission Category’ of its web-site and directed the Government to ensure that CET Cell allotted seats to the college.
Following VTU counsel’s submission that a decision as to granting affiliation to the college could be taken only at the Executive Council meeting scheduled in the third week of August, 2007, the Bench adjourned the hearing to Sept 5, 2007. The High Court on Thursday directed State Government, Bangalore Metorpolitan Area Development Authority (BMRDA) and Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) to consider an application for setting up a professional college or school in a land near Kumudavathi river. In an application filed by Vijayanagar Education Trust through its chairman Dr C A John, it was stated that State Government had approved conversion of the land in survey no. 15 & 16 of Linganahalli, Nelmangala taluk, Bangalore Rural district for commercial purpose. Pursuant to BMRDA’s approval for setting up a building to run medical college & hospital, the construction was started but, KSPCB did not grant approval for the project and also cancelled BMRDA approval during 2002.
