A hut and two goats were gutted when a fire broke out, causing a loss of articles worth Rs 40,000 at Honnavalli in the taluk.
The burnt house belonged to the poor couple Nagamma and Shekharappa who stayed with their five children. Fortunately no loss of life has been reported in the fire accident.
On July 26, when Nagamma had taken the goat for grazing, the mishap occured gutting down nearly 200 coconuts, foodgrains, and Rs 6,000, which Nagamma had saved.
Short circuit
A power short-circuit above the hut where the electric wire passes through, is learnt to have sparkled the fire. Since it was an afternoon , nobody was around and so nobody could douse the fire, it is learnt.
Revenue and Police department officials supervised the spot.
Compensation
The villagers have urged the authorities concerned to provide compensation for the family of Nagamma and Shekharappa under the natural disaster scheme.
