College and school teachers are going to be eligible for gratuity benefits with the government giving the green signal for an amendment to the Gratuity Act to this effect.
A bill to amend the act will be introduced in the monsoon session of Parliament, according a decision taken by the Union Cabinet which has brought teachers within the definition of “employees”.
“This will result in coverage of teachers in educational institutions under the Payment of Gratuity Act, 1972, as per a Supreme Court decision,” Parliamentary Affairs Minister P R Dasmunsi said.
