How does today’s youth view digital technology? Well, in India, it mainly means using cell phones as a status symbol, unlike in China where the average youth uses digital technology to make online friends.
This interesting peek into the mindset of the modern youth has come forth through a global study carried out by MTV and Nickelodeon channels in association with Microsoft Digital Advertising Solutions into how young people interact with digital technology.
The study, which covers 18,000 “tech embracing” kids in the 8-14 year age group and young people in the 14-24 year age group in 16 countries, also found out that in the United States and the United Kingdom, one in three teenagers cannot live without their games consoles.
The survey interestingly found that “technology” itself is irrelevant to most of the kids and young people. While kids use mobiles and the Internet constantly, the survey found that only 20 per cent of those in the 14-24 year age group actually loved technology, and these kids come from developing nations like India, Brazil and China. The people least interested in technology are the Danes and the Dutch — despite saying that they could not live without it.
Globally, the average young person connected to digital technology has 94 phone numbers in his or her mobile phone, 78 people on a messenger buddy list and 86 people in his or her social networking community.
