The Koodige milk dairy, belonging to Hassan Milk Union, has been built at a cost of Rs 3 crore, under the sponsorship of National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). A separate building with advanced technology and equipment has been built adjacent to the existing building.
Milk processing has already been started in the new unit on an experimental basis, said Dairy Deputy Manager Chidanandmurthy.
The new unit has been built with an intention of upgradation. It was found difficult to accommodate advanced equipment in the existing old establishment, The vision has been realised with the efforts of KMF Chairman and PWD Minister H D Revanna, said Guddemane B Ashwath, the director of Hassan Milk Union.
The new unit should have been inaugurated already, but in expectation of the arrival of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, the programme has been delayed, the authorities said. The inaugural ceremony is expected to be held in the third week of August.
The unit having a capacity of handling 50,000 litre milk, now conducts the packing of 40,000 litre milk. Apart from processing, there are also separate units to prepare ghee, curd, butter milk and pedha. But, such works are not done here at present, instead the products are being brought from the Hassan unit.
