Pall of gloom descends
DH News Service, Bangalore:
A pall of gloom enveloped Govindashettypalya, where a few families, most of them construction labourers from Tamil Nadu, reside -- a day after two boys, Deepu and Naveen, were arrested on charges of causing the death of their classmate Manjunath and sent to a home for juvenile delinquents at Madivala.

Manjunath (10) had died of suffocation after the two tried to strangulate him with a nylon rope on suspicion of stealing a pen, on Thursday. All three were friends and students of a government primary school at Govindashettypalya. The parents of Manjunath were inconsolable. His mother was still not ready to believe that the boy was no more.
When Manjunath returned home on Thursday evening, he complained of chest pain and breathlessness. But, the parents hardly knew what was in store for their son.
Even when Manikantha, a younger son, told them about the quarrel, they ignored it. Deepu and Naveen’s parents, who visited and tried their best to console Manjunath’s parents, themselves were in deep shock that their children caused the the boy’s death.
