Implement Sachar panel report: CPI(M)
DH News Service, Bangalore:

The Justice Sachar Committee report on muslims has narrated the real socio-economic condition of muslims in India and needs to be implemented in a fast pace so that muslim populations are integrated in the development process, said CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat.
He was speaking after inaugurating a State-level Convention organised by CPI(M) in Bangalore on Saturday, which urged for early implementation of Sachar Committee recommendations.
Sub-plans
He urged the Central Government to devise sub-plans for the development of muslim minorities and allocate special funds as was being done for Scheduled Tribes community. State Governments also need to make special component plans in accordance with local population of muslims, he said. He said, muslims who formed 14 per cent of the total population, lagged behind in education and employment.
School dropouts
Hence, steps are necessary to prevent dropping out of muslim kids from schools and to ensure sufficient representation of muslims in public employment, he added.
Muslim women are in a precarious condition, he said while adding that special vocational skills development programmes needed to be offered to them.
Parliamentary debate
Mr Karat said, Central Government was not taking any concrete steps to implement the recommendations, even after seven months had passed after its submission.
No debate has been initiated in the Parliament yet, and a recent Union Cabinet meeting had again constituted some sub-committees to discuss implementation, the senior CPI(M) leader regretted.
List
He said, the CPI(M) had prepared a list of demands based on the Sachar committee report and other sections of people also needed to voice their opinion on behalf of the muslims.
The issues raised are concerning four aspects - development, employment and earning, education and security, he said.
The convention was attended by about 1,000 delegates from across the State. Kannada and Urdu booklets briefing the highlights of Justice Rajender Sachar Committee’s reports were launched on this occasion.
MP Mohammed Salim, MLA Srirama Reddy, party’s State secretary G N Nagaraj and leaders Amanulla Khan and Mohammed Dastagir, convenor of party’s sub-committee on muslim minorities, Syed Mujib participated.
