The Permanent Lok Adalat in Mysore, the second in the State after the one in Mangalore, was inaugurated here on Saturday at a function organised jointly by Karnataka State Legal Services Authority, the District Legal Services Authority and the Mysore Bar Association.
Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court Cyriac Joseph, in his inaugural address, said it was decided to set up PLAs as the concept enjoyed great support from both the lawyers and litigants.
The Adalats would ensure speedy disposal of cases without straining the relationship of parties to the dispute.
The system had been conceived for supplementing the works of courts wherein disputes were resolved without litigation and trials unlike the procedures in the latter, he said.
More adalats
With these Adalats, more and more cases could be settled. The concept had been accepted at the national level too and Adalats were coming up in other States as well, he noted. Based on their success, the PLAs would be extended to other part of the State.
The CJ paid compliments to judges, noting that they had been attending the Adalats after their judicial functions at the courts. Lok Adalats were being held at the High Court everyday and at times two to three judges extended their service to the same. The effort was being well supported by even the subordinate judiciary, he added.
High Court judges V Gopala Gowda, Manjula Chellur (who is also administrative judge for Mysore district), N K Patil and H V G Ramesh, KSLSA secretary Veeranna G Tigadi, Principal District and Session Judge Shetkar Subhasa, Deputy Commissioner S Selvakumar, Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao, SP Rama Subba were among those present.
