Navpreet tossed the iron ball to 19.70 metres in his second attempt to claim the coveted yellow metal. Ming Huang Chang (19.66M) of Chinese Taipei won the silver while Khaled Habash M Al Suwaidi of Qatar (19.51M) claimed the bronze.
Preeja finished second in the women’s 5000 metres to bag her second silver medal of the meet. The 24-year-old from Kerala, who had won the silver in the 10000M on Wednesday, clocked 16:56.16 to finish behind Bahrain’s 19-year-old Jasmin Saleh Kareema, who timed of 16:40.87.
Adding to the Indian medal tally was Krishna Poonia, who won the bronze in the women's discus throw with an effort of 55.38M. Harwant Kaur finished fourth with 52.43M.
In decathlon, P J Vinod tallied his personal best of 7441 points but still ended in fourth position.
Sri Lanka’s Susanthika Jayasinghe completed a sprint double, adding the 200M gold to the 100M title she had won earlier. Susanthika timed 22.99 seconds.
Olga Rypakova, who had won the long jump on Friday, also claimed a double, winning the triple jump in a meet record of 14.69 metres.
Good news for Anju
Anju George, who was beaten to silver position in long jump by Rypakova, had a piece of good news in store on Saturday, with the officials declaring that the wind speed for her 6.65 leap was 1.3 m/s and not 4.3m/s as stated earlier.
That means Anju has qualified for the World Championships next month, with the mark being 6.60M.
