A gang of six persons hacked a call centre cab driver to death in the early hours of Monday near Binny Mill Circle. The deceased has been identified as Ravi (25), a resident of Azadnagar and HP call centre cab driver.
According to sources, Ravi used to leave home around 5:30 am to pick up employees at Whitefield. On Monday, he left at the usual time and headed for Malleswaram from where he had to pick up first of the staff.
What he was not aware was a gang of six men were hiding behind Vishwa Karma Temple a few yards away from Balekaimandi near Binny Mill Circle. As he drove by, the six accosted him, broke the windshield and windows of the vehicle as Ravi cried for help. They dragged Ravi out of the cab and attacked him with lethal weapons. Within seconds, Ravi was lying in a pool of blood, while miscreants fled from the spot.
Police suspect old rivalry to be the motive.
One Ramu, a resident of Azadnagar and six of his associates, had hacked Ravi’s brother Prabhakar to death in 2003.
Ramu wanted to marry Prabhakar’s daughter-in-law, but her parents refused following pressure from Prabhakar.
Ramu, who was furious over the rejection, eliminated Prabhakar. Ravi had filed a complaint against Ramu at Hanumanthanagar police station. He had come under pressure from those suspected to be Ramu’s associates to withdraw charges but he stood firm on his ground.
When Ravi refused to change his stand, he was even threatened.
Meanwhile, the court sentenced Ramu to life imprisonment for murder.
Police sources say he may be involved in the incident because he was released on parole just a few days ago.Ravi’s body was handed over to the family members after the post-mortem at Victoria Hospital.
A top police officer told Deccan Herald, “Ramu was in Cottonpet on Sunday and we suspect he is involved in the incident. The truth about Ramu’s involvement will become clear only after the investigation,” he added.
