The Jayanagar police also arrested Jaya (30), Indira (30) and Jyothi (21) on similar charges in Jayanagar 5th Block. Five arrested, valuables seized Madiwala police arrested five persons and recovered a car and gold valuables worth Rs 1.25 lakh.
The five are: Mustafa (28), a resident of Mangammanapalya, Kaleem (24), of Tilak Nagar, Moshin (23), of Gurappanapalya, Masud (23), of Tannery Road, and Mohan (20), of Mangammanapalya.
They were arrested while threatening the public to part with money near Madiwala Lake in BTM Layout.
A cellphone and Rs 2,750 were recovered from them. Further investigations are on. Four held for murder bid
Rajagopalnagar police arrested four persons on charges of hatching a conspiracy to kill a person. The accused have been identified as Sunil (20), Pavan Kumar (22), Deepu (23) and Thimma (19). Police also recovered lethal weapons from them.
The four assaulted Muniraju, a resident of Ramaiah Extension in Nandini Layout, near a Government High School in Rajagopalnagar.
Muniraju sustained injuries and was admitted to a private hospital. He was trying to exhort money from the accused.
Fed up with Muniraju’s threats, they decided to eliminate him, police said. Man held for betting Basavanagudi police arrested a man on betting charges. The accused has been identified as Kumar. Police also recovered Rs 3,000, a cheque for Rs 3.50 lakh and a cellphone.
Acting on a tip-off, police nabbed Kumar near Nettakallappa Circle.
However, another accused, Praveen, escaped.
He had allegedly collected money and was contacting people over phone when the second match between India and South Africa was being played on June 29.
They were involved in several cases of betting in the past. Man held for selling arrack at Arehalli
Subrahmanyapura police arrested a man on charges of illegally selling arrack sachets in violation of the government order.
He has been identified as Sundarappa alias Krishnappa (48), a resident of Arehalli village. Police also recovered 233 arrack sachets.

A 30-year-old person committed suicide by consuming poison at his house recently.
The deceased has been identified as Jagadish, a resident of Belurpalya on Magadi Road.
He was working at a cloth centre in Alankar Plaza. He consumed poison when there was no one at his house. Reason for suicide is not known. Woman dies A 40-year-old woman admitted to Victoria Hospital after she tried to commit suicide by setting herself ablaze died of burns. She has been identified as Lakshmi Devamma (40), a resident of Nandini Layout.
She was admitted to the hospital, but she did not respond to treatment, and died.
