Village Assistants and Gram Panchayat Secretary should be given the target to identify the government land for the construction of Ashraya houses in the district, said MLA Abhayachandra Jain.
Speaking at the Taluk Panchayat KDP meeting here on Monday, he said as many as 60 houses will be distributed in every gram panchayat limits. But owing to the shortage of land for the purpose, the needy are not getting the due benefit from the government. Both Village Assistants and Gram Panchayat Secretaries should be given a target to identify the land.
Mr Jain said under 94(C), those who have constructed house in government land were not distributed with the title deeds.
Mangalore Tahsildar informed the meeting that a survey has been conducted to find out those who do not reside in the houses allotted to them. The report is submitted to the Deputy Commissioner.
‘Nemmadi kendra’
When the Taluk Panchayat President Ranganath Shetty pointed out that Nemmadi Kendra at Mulky is not functioning properly, Mr Jain directed the Tahsildar to inspect the functioning of the Kendra.
He said Nemmadi Kendra should be situated in easily accessible place as commoners visit Kendra for the RTC copy.
He also urged the Tahsildar to earmark land for the cremation ground in every village.
Schools
Mangalore taluk BEO informed the meeting that no tent schools will be functioning this year. The tent school was introduced to bring children back to the portals of the school. All those students who have been studying in the tent school are being shifted to the nearby schools.
He said admission drive to the school will be continued till July 31.
Mr Jain urged the BEO to inspect whether the children of quarry workers are being admitted to the schools in the Mangalore taluk.
The BEO informed that 42,849 students have been enrolled between Standard I and V by the end of June in Mangalore taluk. Of which, 20,673 are girl children. Free textbooks have been distributed to 23,700 children studying between Standard I and VII. As many as 22,607 children have been distributed with free uniforms in Mangalore taluk.
HIGH SCHOOLS for m’lore
The Government has sanctioned many high schools in the State. Education department had recommended high schools at Moodukonaje and Kallabettu in Mangalore taluk. But the Government has sanctioned high schools at Padukonaje and Valpadi.
The BEO informed that the the department got the sanction letter in June.
“If the Government sanctions high schools in the month of June, when will the admission process commence,” Mr Jain asked.
