The long pending dream of having a Government First Grade College at Tarikere was realised with the commencement of classes at BEO old office building in Tarikere on Monday.
Speaking after inaugurating the classes, Collegiate Education Joint Director M S Raghunath said government has started first grade colleges with an aim to attract girl students from rural villages to the portals of higher education. The college will offer BA, BCom, BBM and BSc.
He said lecturers have been appointed. They will report to the duty within a week. The Government has released a sum of Rs 1.62 crore for the construction of the new building for the college.
MLA T H Shivashankarappa presided. College Principal V S Shekar welcomed the gathering.
