In a reel to real drama on Monday three unemployed electropathy doctors climbed upon a high mobile telephone tower and threatened to jump to death if their demand for jobs was not accepted by the state government.
The incident occurred at the Press Enclave area here, where the doctors are on a relay hunger strike for the last 80 days in support of their demand. Four unemployed doctors were arrested by police after they attempted self immolation.
Defusing the crisis
Efforts were on by the state government to defuse the crises and talks have begun with the unemployed doctors.
Police and civil administration officials are making efforts to persuade the doctors on the tower to safely come down for talks. But they threatened to jump if the cops made any attempt to catch them. The drama started during the wee hours of Monday morning as three doctors Dr Sajad, Dr Mustafa and Dr Rashid climbed upon the tower.
Immediately an army of electronic media persons was on the spot for live coverage.
The police too reached the Press Enclave and all efforts to persuade the doctors to come down failed.
“We were forced by the government to take such an extreme step. Despite our 80 day long strike nothing was done by the government to redress our grievance,” said Dr Sajjad.
There are 290 unemployed electropathy doctors in the state.
A state government official said that they are helpless in solving the problem of the doctors. “Electropathy is not a recognised degree in the state. Still we are ready for talks to resolve the issue,” he said.
