On Sunday night, four tipplers walked into a room at the girls’ hostel of Rajarajeshwari Medical College and Hospital and allegedly misbehaved with her. However, the Talaghattapura police station has yet to register an offence of trespassing even after two days of the incident.
Sources said that around 9 pm, four youths entered the room of a girl, a native of Gujarat, and hid themselves in the bathroom. They later came out and drugged her. The girl reportedly resisted and on hearing her screams, some ‘passers-by’ came to her rescue. But the girl had already fallen unconscious. She was admitted to the Rajarajeshwari Hospital, where she regained consciousness on Monday afternoon.
The Talaghattapura police, under whose jurisdiction the hospital falls, did not register even a case of trespassing. “Yes, we are aware of the incident. But we found nothing to register any case. Besides, the intruders were known to her,” said a constable.
But College vice-dean Rangappa told Deccan Herald the intruders were not known to anyone. “As soon as the youths entered, the girl shouted and the security personnel came inside and the intruders fled,” he said. “As many as 18 security personnel have been deployed to provide security to the girls’ hostel and policemen have been asked to patrol around the hostel,” he added.
The dean and CMD of the college, Ramachandra, had switched off his mobile phone since morning.
There were only two security personnel near the hostel on Tuesday evening.
When contacted, State Women Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi said the college authorities has to lodge a complaint against trespassers and the police have to register an offence.
She said she would personally visit the hostel “and investigate it”.
