The Right To Information Study Centre has alleged that there is misappropriation of funds in the JNNURM-funded BBMP silt removal project of storm water drains in Vrishabhavathi, Koramangala, Hebbal and Challaghatta valleys.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Managing Trustee of Right To Information Study Centre, S Amaresh said, “The BBMP has declared that 14,43,312 cmtrs of silt has been removed from the valleys. We have received information from the BBMP that, Rs 112 crores has been remitted to contractors in April and renumerations worth Rs 186.90 lakh has been given to the project consultants. But the BBMP has failed to disclose the area where the recovered silt is dumped”.
Incomplete
“As we have observed silt removal work has been done only in Vrishabhavathi valley and even that is incomplete. Our organisation feels that former BBMP commissioner K Jairaj and engineers Shivshankar, Mrutyunjay and Ranganath are responsible for this misappropriation”, Mr Amaresh informed.
High-level inquiry
The organisation has urged the State government to conduct a high-level inquiry into this matter and make all the facts public.
