Launched in the UK last year, Intute (http://www.intute.ac.UP) is the new face of the Resource Discovery Network (RDN). It is a free online service which provides access to the very best Web resources in the field of education and research. The Intute database makes it possible to discover the best and most relevant resources.  The database allows access to both subject-specific and cross-subject resources, under these four subject groups. They are: Science and Technology,Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, and Health and Life Sciences.
Science & Technology
The Science and Technology subject group includes resources related to the study of physical sciences, engineering, computing, geography, mathematics and environmental sciences. These resources have been categories under Astronomy, Chemistry, Computing, Earth Sciences, Engineering Environment, General Sciences, Geography, Mathematics and Physics. The Virtual Training Suite, under this category, provides free Internet tutorials, and these include Aviator, Chemist, Civil Engineer, Construction, Earth Scientist, Electrical Engineer, Engineering (General and Automotive), Geographer, Health and Safety (HE), Health and Safety at Work (FE), ICT, Materials Engineer, Mathematician, Mathematics and Adult Numeracy (FE), Mechanical Engineer, Petroleum and Offshore Engineering, Physicist and Sciences. Currently, the database of The Science & Technology subject group currently contains 33,259 records that are freely accessible for keyword searching or browsing.
Arts & Humanities
The Arts and Humanities subject group includes resources for the study of English and other modern languages and literature, history, archaeology, classics, religion and philosophy, architecture, communications, media and culture, design, fashion and beauty, music and the performing arts and visual arts.
These resources have been categorised under Arts and Creative Industries, General Arts and Humanities, Historical and Philosophical Studies, European Languages, Literature, Historical and Cultural Studies, Other Languages, Literature, Historical and Cultural Studies, and Literature, Linguistics, Classics. The Virtual Training Suite, under this category, provides free Internet tutorials, and these include - Archaeologist, Art, Design and Media, Arts and Crafts, Digital Photography, English (HE), English Studies (FE), ESOL, Hairdressing and Beauty, Historians, History and Philosophy of Science, Learning Languages, Modern Languages, Performing Arts, Philosopher, and Religious Studies. Currently, the database of the Arts and Humanities subject group contains 1,16,594 records that are freely accessible for keyword searching or browsing.
The Social Sciences subject group includes resources related to the study of Anthropology, Business and Management, Economics, Education, Environmental Sciences, European Studies, Hospitality and Catering, Human Geography, Law, Politics, Psychology, Research Tools and Methods, Social Welfare, Sociology, Sport and Leisure Practice, Statistics and Data, Travel and Tourism, and Women's Studies.
The Virtual Training Suite, under this category,  provides free Internet tutorials, and these include Anthropologist, Business Manager (HE), Business Studies (FE), Development, Economist, Education, European Studies, Government and Politics,  Hospitality and Catering, International Relations, Lawyers, Leisure, Sport and Recreation, Psychologist, Social Policy, Social Research Methods, Social Statistics, Social Worker, Sociologist, Town and Country Planner, Travel and Tourism, and Women's Studies. The Social Sciences subject group includes resources related to the study of Medicine, Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health, Veterinary, Bioresearch, Natural History, Agriculture, Food and Forestry, BioethicsWeb - biomedical ethics, MedHist - history of medicine resources, Psci-com - public engagement with science and technology.
The Virtual Training Suite, under this category,  provides free Internet tutorials on Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Allied Health, Biosciences, Gardening, Health and Social Care, Health and Well-being, Medicine, Natural History, Nursing, Midwifery and Health Visiting, Pharmacist, and Vet. There are over 31,000 resource descriptions listed here that are freely accessible for keyword searching or browsing.
Intute is hosted by MIMAS at The University of Manchester. It is a collaboration between a whole host of partners and contributors. Subject specialists select and evaluate the websites in the database and write high quality descriptions of the resources.
