Research Education Advancement Programme
There is a latent desire in every student to pursue research. The heavy influx of information triggers their curiosity. Here is a programme with the aim of helping such students achieve their goals.
Entitled “Research Education Advancement Programme” (REAP) this is a venture of Bangalore Association for Science Education (Jawaharlal Nehru Planetarium) and ably supported by the prestigious institutes like the Indian Institute of Science, Raman Research Institute and the Indian Institute of Astrophysics.
The basic idea behind the course is to help students pursue a career in research and give them a good foundation to start from. Such a course is essential today, since we find that most students are drifting away from pure sciences.
REAP provides a good push to those who are, and can foster further interest in research. In order to move forward with science, innovation and growth is the key. This requires structured, detailed efforts in that direction. Such a course goes a long way in moulding a student's approach to research, sharpening his skills, giving him new ideas and polishing his work. The course runs parallel to their degree course, by the time they finish their B.Sc., they are ready to do research.
This programme has given excellent results.
Over a period of six years, many of the students have joined Ph.D. programmes in Indian and foreign institutes such as the Raman Research Institute, Bangalore; Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore; Michigan State University, U.S.; Oxford University, U.K.; Delft Institute, Holland; Texas A&M University, State University of New York, Buffalo, Yale University and University of Arizona.
The sessions of this year commences on July14th; students of B Sc I year can enrol at the Planetarium on or before July 8th.
