Here is a piece of good news for lakhs of devotees from across the country who would be participating in this year’s annual Jagannath Rath Yatra (the car festival) scheduled to be celebrated in this temple town on July 16.
The Orissa government and the Jagannath temple administration, the organisers of the important annual religious event, have already decided to provide insurance cover to all the devotees attending the world famous mega colourful festival.
Besides the devotees, the officials and police who would be manning the festival as well as the priests of the Puri temple would also come under the insurance cover of Rs five lakh.
“The step has been taken keeping in mind the safety and security of the devotees,” Laxmidhar Pujapanda, the public relation officer (PRO) of the Puri temple told Deccan Herald.
This is for the first time that the insurance cover is being provided to the devotees during Rath Yatra or any other festivity connected with the Jagannath temple.
An independent insurance cover has also been provided to the Jagannath temple. While the devotees and others would get the benefit of the insurance cover till the end of the Rath Yatra festival this year, the temple has been insured for throughout the year.
