A postman who is considered one of the most trusted friend of every household here has allegedly sold the important posts containing letters, statements and insurance intimations among others to a waste paper dealer instead of delivering them at the concerned addresses.
As the matter came to light following exposure by the shocked people of Navlakha area, the postal department has launched a probe against the concerned postman while the police has seized the material from the waste paper dealer, Director Postal Services Madhvi Dabral told reporters.
The letters, intimations (LIC), magazines and statements (telephone bills) among others weighing nearly 3 kg were allegedly sold by the beat postman to the scrap dealer, Azam, who informed that the the same postman has sold him such letters earlier also.
The postal department is also informing concerned banks and other institutions and urging them to re-issue the post again by waiving-off the late fee if possible and in case it is not possible then the postal department will bear the cost, Madhvi Dabra said.
Nearly 250 letters were found from the waste paper dealer’s shop and all of them were posted after June 15, Madhvi Dabra said.
The two-member committee will submit the report today and then only the department will disclose the name of the accused postman though the department has already identified him, Madhvi Dabra added.
