The High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition by iron and steel merchants of the City who challenged the grant of 166 acres land acquired by BDA in Konadasapura, near Hoskote, for a global telecom SEZ project.
Karnataka Steels and 54 other merchants of iron, steel and hardware in City Market area had challenged the Industries Department’s decision to grant the land situated at Konadasapura, Bidaranahalli hobli, Bangalore South taluk, to Global Telecom City Developers Pvt Ltd.
BDA had proposed to shift the hardware shops located inside Bangalore city to outskirts as part of Mega City Scheme and invited applications for allotting 747 commercial plots and 433 residential plots in the area.
BDA and the government said since merchants had not shown common interest in BDA’s project and were delaying over price negotiations, the land was held up. Hence, the government transferred the land to KIADB, which granted it for the SEZ project.
