The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday stayed the operation of Advocate General’s sanction for initiating contempt proceedings against MP R L Jalappa till July 9.
Mr Jalappa had challenged Advocate General (AG) Uday Holla’s order dated June 14 which had accorded consent for initiating contempt proceedings under Section 15(1)(b) of Contempt of Courts Act, 1971. The AG accorded consent while allowing an application by Doordarshan Director Dr Mahesh Joshi, who had sought permission to initiate contempt proceedings against Mr Jalappa. Dr Joshi had accused Jalappa of making derogatory statements against Karnataka High Court judges.
