The High Court on Thursday stayed a State Government order approving the shifting of the venue for a new Pre-University College approved for Tumkur district, while ordering notices to the Government, PU Board and MLA K N Rajanna on a PIL.
The petitioner, K T Rangaswamy of Gubbi, Tumkur district had stated that based on Dr Nanjundappa Commission report, the State Government had approved setting up of a new PU College in Kodiala, Gubbi taluk, by an order on June 7, 2007. But, at the instance of Bellavi MLA K N Rajanna, the Government had made a fresh notification on July 3, 2007, approving the shifting of the said PU College to Nelahal in Tumkur taluk, he alleged.
The petitioner challenged the decision of changing the venue while seeking a direction to the Government and PU Board to establish the proposed college in Kodiala alone, as decided earlier.
The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice S Abdul Nazeer granted an interim stay against the shift of venue, and admitted the petition for hearing.
