Beggars, nomads take out rally seeking census
DH News Service, Chitradurga:
Hundreds of people took out a rally and laid siege to the deputy commissioners office in the city seeking fulfilment of a number of demands that ranged from census of beggars and nomads to dropping of the proposal to outsource Akshara Dasoha programme.

Beggars, nomads, slum dwellers, domestic workers and Akshara Dasoha workers took part in the agitation which was marked by a confrontation with the police while picketing DC office.
Mr Ganesh, who led the agitation urged the government to conduct a census of beggars and nomads and provide them with five acres of land and loans to help them settle down.
He also demanded the government to include them in the reservation list and sponsor the education of their children.
Domestic workers should be considered as unorganised labourers and given a minimum wage of Rs 50 a day. The government ,ust provide ration cards to slum dwellers, he demanded.
Akshara Dasoha workers would become jobless if the midday meal scheme was outsourced, he said.
