Peoples role in environment protection stressed
DH News Service, Davangere:

Law expert Prof S H Patel said that every individual should shoulder the responsibility of conserving environment which could not be achieved just by means of legal measures.
He was speaking at an interaction organised by the BIET in the city as part of ‘Environment Conservation Week’.
He said that clean environment could be ensured for future generations, only if individuals joined hands in controlling pollution without expecting law to do it.
Prof Manjappa said that the city accounted for more than 120 tonnes of garbage and there was an urgent need to find a lasting solution to dispose solid wastes, which were leading to foul smell and diseases.
It was a matter of concern that sewage was released to the Tungabhadra river and its water was supplied for drinking, the professor said.
Pointing out that the waste bins installed at public places in the city were not being used to dump garbage, Dr M G Ishwarappa said that the public should stick to a system in disposing solid wastes.
