A metro train caught fire during a trial run here in the wee hours on Friday. No one was injured in the incident and there was no damage to property.
The under-frame portion of the train caught fire at about 1.30 a.m. while it was passing through Shadipur station on the Indraprastha-Dwarka route, a DMRC official said. He stated that the fire was minor and it was brought under control within half-an-hour.
The accident reportedly occurred when the train was undergoing traction motor and converter-inverter temperature rise tests to determine the safety of these equipment under extreme heat condition of upto 260 degree Celsius.
He explained that these conditions and temperature, which were artificially generated, would not occur in normal operations.
