Indian skipper Rahul Dravid rated the decision of the senior pros to opt out of the forthcoming Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa as the way forward for Indian cricket.
Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly had conveyed to the chairman of national selectors Dilip Vengsarkar their decision to pull out of the Twenty20 World Cup.
“I think that is the way forward for Indian cricket. We thought it is better if the younger guys played that tournament. Twenty20 is a game for youngsters. I think it was a proper decision and the way forward for Indian cricket,” Dravid said after the first day's play of the four-day practice game against Sussex here on Saturday.
Dravid also expressed satisfaction over the day's proceedings as India finished on a formidable 281 for three.
“It was a good day's outing for us and we have achieved many of the things that we had set in front of us before this day. Obviously, such a beginning is good ahead of a long tour and we are happy with the way the day has progressed. There are a couple of niggles and injuries there that we need to sort out before the Test series begins," he said.
Dravid also praised the frontline batsmen's performance. "The important part of the day was that we got a lot of time in the middle and that could be an important factor in England, especially with the four-bowler strategy that we might adopt during the course of this tour," the Indian captain revealed.
